About Rolls-Royce SMR
Rolls-Royce SMR is revolutionising low-carbon energy through its small modular reactor (SMR) programme. Designed to deliver affordable, scalable nuclear power, it helps accelerate global decarbonisation objectives. As the team expands its Operations capability, it is seeking an IDT Lead – In-Containment Construction to drive excellence in reactor containment and in-containment assembly delivery across upcoming fleets.
The Role
As IDT Lead – In-Containment Construction, you will lead an integrated, cross-functional team defining the strategy for designing, sourcing, constructing, and approving containment and in-containment elements within the Reactor Island. Your responsibilities span engineering, construction, procurement, commercial, and regulatory disciplines, ensuring a standardised, optimised approach that delivers technical robustness and commercial effectiveness.
This is a high-visibility role, working across organisational levels and engaging with Executive Leadership to build confidence in planning, align strategy, and drive successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a cross-functional Integrated Delivery Team (IDT) to develop and coordinate containment construction strategy.
- Align engineering, construction, procurement, and suppliers to deliver an integrated programme approach.
- Develop and manage programme plans, including cost models, schedules, and resource allocation.
- Define workflows, dependencies, and interfaces across teams and suppliers.
- Establish and maintain clear RACI frameworks for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure methodologies align with Rolls-Royce SMR’s construction and programme standards.
- Identify and optimise value drivers across the lifecycle and fleet deployment.
- Provide visibility and alignment to senior stakeholders, including at executive level.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
