Software Engineer, AI/ML Applications Engineering

About the Role
This position lies within Qualcomm’s Infotainment & IoT (IE-IOT) Application Engineering Group, a team that collaborates closely with global partners and customers from conceptualization through to product commercialization.
You’ll play a critical role across embedded software development, including:
- Software and hardware design
- Feature prototyping and integration
- Customization and optimization
- Debugging and performance tuning
We seek a highly skilled Software Engineer with expertise in AI/ML on embedded platforms (Linux or Android). Your core responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical support to Qualcomm customers and partners
- Designing, developing, and debugging AI/ML solutions for embedded systems
- Customizing and optimizing software per product requirements
- Leveraging Qualcomm’s SoC capabilities for performance enhancement
The ideal candidate excels in:
- Rapid onboarding into existing projects
- Understanding IE-IOT platform hardware/software architectures
- Writing/reading technical specifications and requirements
- Problem-solving and analytical reasoning

Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize AI/ML models for invoke-edge embedded systems
- Bring forward custom hardware/software reference designs for customer debugging
- Integrate and benchmark AI innovations in IE-IOT/VR platforms
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on CAPEX planning, technical requirements, and validation
- Establish best practices and tools for efficient AI workload deployment
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
- 4+ years in AI/ML software development
- 8+ years embedded platform experience
- 4+ years Linux/Android experience
(Proficiency in top-tier ML frameworks)
- CV/DL frameworks: OpenCV, OpenCL, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Caffe/Caffe2
- Hands-on with supervised/unsupervised ML (Computer Vision, NLP, LLMs)
- ML/MLOps development pipeline expertise
- Vector math, conditional operators, and neural net optimizations (CNNs, object detection, segmentation)
- Quantization approaches, accelerating inference on bare metal/RTOS
Technical Skills
- C/C++ and scripting (Python) for embedded software integration
- ML/DL debugging and performance tuning
- Open-source CI/CD for reproducible workflows

Education
An accredited degree in Engineering, Information Systems, or Computer Science with:
- Bachelor’s + 6+ years of experience, OR
- Master’s + 5+ years of experience, OR
- PhD + 4+ years of experience
Additional Requirements
- Assertive communication + customer-focus
- Multi-disciplinary collaboration
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with embedded AI platforms (drones, robotics, smart audio-visual)
- Familiarity with MLPerf and dedicated accelerators
- Hands-on debugging tools (JTAG, ftrace, GDB)
- Expertise in Quantized Neurosymbolic learning or inference-stack integration
