IFS Functional Consultant – Role Specification

Role Purpose
The IFS Functional Consultant is responsible for analysing business requirements, designing and configuring IFS Cloud solutions, and supporting the successful delivery of ERP implementations, upgrades, and optimisation programmes. Working closely with business stakeholders and technical teams, the consultant ensures that IFS functionality aligns with business processes while promoting best practice and maximising the value of the platform.
Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis
- Engage with business stakeholders to understand operational processes, objectives, and challenges.
- Facilitate workshops to gather and validate business requirements.
- Analyse current ("as-is") and future ("to-be") business processes.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and standardisation.
- Document functional requirements and business process maps.
Solution Design
- Design functional solutions using standard IFS Cloud capabilities.
- Configure IFS modules to meet agreed business requirements.
- Produce Functional Design Specifications (FDS) for custom developments where required.
- Ensure solution designs align with overall enterprise architecture and project standards.
- Promote the adoption of standard functionality over customisation wherever possible.

Configure and support one or more of the following functional areas:

Participate in all stages of ERP implementation, including:
- Discovery
- Solution Design
- Configuration
- Data Validation
- Testing
- User Training
- Go-Live
- Hypercare
Support project planning and estimation activities. Collaborate with technical consultants, developers, and integration teams. Ensure deliverables are completed on time and to quality standards.

Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop strong relationships with business users and project stakeholders.
- Act as the primary functional advisor within assigned workstreams.
- Communicate complex ERP concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
- Manage stakeholder expectations throughout project delivery.
Testing & Quality Assurance
- Develop functional test scripts and scenarios.
- Execute System Integration Testing (SIT).
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Investigate and resolve functional issues and defects.
- Validate configured solutions against business requirements.
Documentation & Training
- Produce functional documentation, including:
- Functional Design Specifications
- Configuration Documents
- Process Guides
- User Manuals
- Training Materials
- Deliver end-user and super-user training.
- Support knowledge transfer to internal support teams.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to optimise existing business processes.
- Recommend enhancements using new IFS Cloud functionality.
- Support application upgrades and feature adoption.
- Maintain awareness of new IFS releases and product developments.
Required Experience
- 3–7+ years of ERP functional consulting experience.
- Experience implementing or supporting IFS Cloud or IFS Applications.
- Participation in multiple full lifecycle ERP implementation projects.
- Experience gathering and documenting business requirements.
- Functional configuration experience across one or more IFS modules.
- Strong understanding of business processes across operational and corporate functions.
- Experience working in Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid project environments.

- IFS Cloud Certification.
- Experience across multiple IFS functional modules.
- Global or multi-site ERP implementations.

- Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar project management tools.
- Power BI or other reporting platforms.
- SQL knowledge.
- Experience in manufacturing, engineering, energy, aerospace, construction, utilities, or service industries.

Qualifications
Essential
- Degree in Business, Information Systems, Engineering, Finance, Supply Chain, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Desirable
- IFS Cloud Certification.
- Business Analysis qualification (e.g. BCS or IIBA).
- Prince2, Agile, or Scrum certification.
- Lean Six Sigma certification.
