About the Role
At Barnsley Council, you’ll have the opportunity to transform lives by supporting vulnerable individuals in regaining independence after illness, disability or life-changing events. As a Reablement Support Worker, your role will focus on:
- Assisting clients in rebuilding essential life skills.
- Enabling them to return home while fostering confidence and social connections.
- Responding to client needs 7 days a week, including weekends and bank holidays (core service hours: 7 AM – 10 PM).
- Building collaborative relationships with clients, their support networks, and partner agencies.
This is frontline community work where flexibility, empathy, and resilience are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct Client Support:
- Work alongside clients to rebuild independence through tailored support (e.g., daily living skills, mobility, social engagement).
- Help older adults, families, or individuals recovering from illness/multiple long-term conditions regain skills for home living.
- Flexible & Responsive Service:
- Adapt to fluctuating service demands, working proactively within the Reablement team.
- Building Partnerships:
- Engage collaboratively with personal support networks (caretakers, family, friends) and external agencies.
- At-Home Engagement:
- Travel borough-wide (a valid driving license and personal vehicle are required).
- Provide support in/users' homes, ensuring both accessibility and confidentiality.
- Tanker or Task Readiness:
- Respond promptly to client needs, whether day, night, or on public holidays.

Person Specification: Qualities & Skills Needed
- Essential:
- Ability to engage authentically with vulnerable individuals across diverse backgrounds.
- Strong communal interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport.
- Self-motivation and adaptability to meet unpredictable service demands.
- Flexible availability - capacity to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Valid driving license and access to a personal vehicle (borough-wide coverage required).
- Desirable but not Mandatory:
- Previous experience supporting recovery/social reintegration or managing complex needs.
- Familiarity with local Adult Social Care principles or similar.
Requirements & Compliance
- English Proficiency: Must speak English fluently sufficient for therapeutic engagement.
- DBS Standard: Enhanced disclosure required (including overseas records if applicable).
- Note: If hiring from overseas, you may need a foreign criminal record check covered by the candidate.
- Visa/Work Eligibility:
- Valid work documents (e.g., visa) must reflect the role’s scope. Barnsley Council does not sponsor visas.
