Junior Engineer – Integrated Lifecycle Support Consulting (Aerospace & Defence)
RINA is looking for a motivated Junior Engineer with 2–5 years of industry experience to join its expanding Integrated Lifecycle Support Consulting team. This dynamic and multidisciplinary group combines expertise in Integrated Logistic Support, Product Support Engineering, and Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS), offering a fantastic opportunity to grow within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
As a Lifecycle Support Consultant, you will support complex Aerospace and Defence programmes, including engagements with the Ministry of Defence (MOD), with a focus on:
- Reliability and failure modelling
- Cost modelling
- Spares forecasting
- Statistical analysis
Working within a specialist and established team, you will:
- Deliver end-to-end Integrated Product Support (IPS) initiatives
- Develop expertise across multiple projects, including military land, air, sea, and autonomous platforms
This role can be based in Chippenham, Southampton, Leatherhead, or Lincoln, with smart/hybrid working policies in place. Commute to an office is not essential, making it an accessible opportunity.
Responsibilities

Support Engineering Programmes:
- Ensure support requirements are delivered on time, to budget, and to quality standards

Analytical & Design Studies:
- Conduct detailed analytical studies under IPS Manager supervision, ensuring support systems meet Reliability, Maintenance, and Supportability (RMS) requirements
- Recommend design changes as necessary

IPS Project Development:
- Design and implement IPS projects, including:
- AR&M (Availability, Reliability, and Maintainability) apportionment
- Supportability Analysis (SA)
- Through-Life Cost modelling
- Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECAs)
- Fault Tree Analysis
- Codification
- Design and implement IPS projects, including:

Element Plans:
- Develop and manage all Element Plans

Bidding & Proposals:
- Support bid and proposal writing

Performance Reporting:
- Provide reports on productivity and KPIs to the IPS Manager

Quality Assurance:
- Conduct peer reviews of IPS Capability Group outputs

Business Development:
- Assist the IPS Manager in expanding team capabilities to emerging market demands

Innovation Initiatives:
- Develop new growth opportunities through innovation projects
Requirements

Minimum 2 years of postgraduate commercial experience in Engineering, preferably within:
- Failure analysis
- Cost modelling
- Reliability modelling

Strong ability to engage with clients, building trust and credibility

Qualifications:
- A-level in Maths or a Science subject
- Bachelors degree in Engineering (BEng or MEng) – preferable specialisation: Mechanical
- Additional sector experience in:
- Defence
- Energy
- Oil & Gas
- Marine
- Aviation
- Transport (a plus)

Technical Knowledge (preferable but not mandatory):
- Some Availability, Reliability, and Maintainability (AR&M) analysis experience
- Familiarity with IPS Defence standards, including:
- Def Stan 00-600
- DLF (JSP886)
- Def Stan 00-40 series

System & Design Expertise:
- Working knowledge of design engineering methods and processes (e.g., systems engineering)

- Due to the sensitive nature of RINA’s work, you must either:
- Have existing Security Clearance, or
- Be a British citizen willing to undergo vetting
