Investment Management Group (IMG) Fixed Income Service Team

Investment Management Group (IMG) Fixed Income Service Team are evolving and this role will have the opportunity to provide front line operational support to Fixed Income Investment Group across both Active and Index strategies, as well as supporting Investment Data Management.

This role will join seven other specialists in provide critical daily operational support to the Fixed Income Portfolio Managers and management of Investment Index Data. Operational support includes maintenance of the FI Investment Book of Records (IBOR) including start of day and end of day checks, liquidity, cashflows, monitoring of trading activity, managing counterparties and overall insights to the Investments Team.

The ideal candidate will have firm knowledge of fixed income markets, derivatives, trading strategies and experience with Aladdin. Practical experience in an Operations environment including detecting and responding to operational incidents, project management, managing stakeholders with appropriate escalations, and strong understanding of the investments lifecycle are also beneficial. The candidate should feel confident and motivated to interact with the portfolio managers, and comfortable identifying creative solutions to trading/operational challenges and supporting testing.

Core Responsibilities

This role requires a candidate who is comfortable and motivated by building strong in-person relationships with the Portfolio Managers and Trading Team.

  • Develop a deep understanding of the end-to-end fixed income investment process conceptually and operationally. This includes a Front-to-Back understanding of the investing lifecycle
  • Support portfolio managers and traders as the key IMG Fixed Income Service client by:
    • Responding to Investment process queries and concerns quickly with valuable insights and explanation
    • Engaging wider EIS (Middle and Back Office) teams to collate the information or actions required by Desk and build strong interpersonal relationships. Especially Settlements Team to minimize failed trades
  • Monitor and understand portfolio movements to provide value-adding insights to the Desk, especially liquidity (investable cash), duration and general trading activity
  • Support the management of Investment and Index Data to ensure accurate and timely representation of Data to Fixed Income Investment Team
  • Monitor market/world events and consider how these may impact the Investing process and therefore the EIS working day. Discuss with colleagues.
  • Work with Investment Risk and Operational Risk Teams to improve controls and control environment
  • Identify, recommend and drive solutions and process improvements to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of processes eg: automations, new coding, technological suggestions and collaborations
  • Familiarise with the Vanguard Management System as an approach to continuous improvement (managing time, communicating effectively, root cause analysis of incidents, continuous learning)
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years related work experience within Fixed Income Fund Operations or Investment Team-facing role
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Accounting, Finance degree or CFA preferred
  • Experience in Aladdin and fixed income investments preferred
  • This position requires you to be in our office 5 days per week
