Commercial Solicitor

West Midlands | Hybrid Working | £80,000 | Full Time (37 Hours) | 12-Month FTC

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commercial Solicitor to join the in-house legal team of a large, ambitious university in the West Midlands.

This is a varied and intellectually stimulating role, supporting a broad range of strategic commercial activity across the institution. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders, advising on:

  • High-value contracts
  • Innovative partnerships
  • Complex commercial arrangements supporting teaching, research and enterprise

A particular focus of the role includes advising on:

  • Partnership and franchise arrangements with:
    • NHS bodies
    • Further education colleges
    • Private sector providers

Your work will ensure these collaborations are:

  • Commercially robust
  • Legally compliant
  • Effectively protect the University’s interests

The position is initially offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract with strong potential for permanent conversion for the right candidate.

The Role

This is a genuine business partnering role where you’ll:

  • Influence key strategic decisions
  • Collaborate with senior leaders across the organisation
  • Advise on a broad range of commercial matters, including:
    • Partnership and franchise agreements
    • Commercial contracts and procurement
    • Grant funding agreements
    • IT and technology contracts
    • Data sharing agreements
    • Research collaborations and intellectual property
    • Joint ventures and strategic commercial projects

About You

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England & Wales with substantial post-qualification experience in commercial law
  • Experience advising on university partnership or franchise arrangements is advantageous, though candidates from other sectors (private sector/FSU education) with comparable commercial expertise are welcomed
  • Ideal candidates possess strong experience in:
    • Drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements
    • Assessing contractual risk and governance
    • Building senior stakeholder relationships
    • Working in higher education or public sector environments
  • The ability to thrive in fast-paced, strategic settings with clear ** elecciones**
  • Proven track record of delivering quality legal advice with consideration for broader business objectives
