Legal Counsel (Employment) In-House | Manchester | Newly Created Role

The Opportunity

A global business headquartered in Manchester is looking to appoint a Legal Counsel (Employment) to join its centralised Group Legal Team. This is a newly created role within the Employment Law Service, reporting directly to the Head of Employment Law and Employee Relations.

The role has been created to support a growing and ambitious legal function that was recently nominated for In-House Legal Team of the Year. It offers broad exposure to employment law across both the UK and international jurisdictions, including the US, APAC, and Europe. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career employment lawyer who is looking to step into a high-visibility in-house position, take ownership of a wide-ranging brief, and build close relationships with senior stakeholders across the business.

The Role

Working alongside the Head of Employment Law and senior legal colleagues, you will provide pragmatic, commercial employment law advice across the full spectrum of contentious and non-contentious matters. Your responsibilities will include:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
