Head of Legal – In-House Legal Counsel Role

The Role: In-House Legal Counsel
We are expanding our legal team and seeking a commercial, high-impact In-House Legal Counsel, reporting directly to the Head of Legal. This dynamic role requires the ability to:
- Guide complex infrastructure, commercial, and regulatory workstreams
- Work cross-functionally with senior stakeholders to align legal strategy with business goals
- Shaping legal outcomes while maintaining variety, influence, and commercial balance
The Utilities, energy, or estates experience is essential. Successful candidates will thrive in a fast-paced environment, translating legal risks into commercial opportunities with precision.
What You’ll Be Doing
Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Legal services leadership
- Provide expert legal support to the Leep Utilities Group, aligning with business objectives and legal best practice.

Contract negotiation & drafting
- Lead and support complex commercial contracts, including:
- Multi-utility framework agreements
- Asset adoption agreements (electricity, water, waste, gas, heat networks)
- Supplier and services agreements

Master planning & utility tenders
- Review, negotiate, and advise throughout the contract lifecycle, from pre-tender stages to ongoing operations and disputes.

Contractual & dispute analysis
- Offer guidance on contract interpretation, risk mitigation, and disputes.

Precedent & training development
- Develop and maintain precedent documents, guidance materials, and training resources to foster legal awareness across the business.

Regulatory compliance
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes, advising the business on strategic implications and recommended actions.

External vendor management
- Oversee external legal advisers, ensuring high-quality support, cost efficiency, and effective outcomes.

- Personify Leep’s values and leadership behaviours while nurturing a positive, collaborative culture.
About You
Essential Requirements
- Fully qualified solicitor with 5+ years Post-Qualification Experience (PQE)
- Strong background in commercial contracts, with preference in:
- Infrastructure, utilities, construction, or energy
- Experience in multi-party or framework projects, particularly those involving:
- Structures, tenders, or complex contracts
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment
- Exceptional ability to balance legal risks with business priorities, recommending clear commercial actions
- Experience working directly with senior stakeholders, influencing strategy relationships
Desirable
- Relevant experience in Utilities (NAV/IDNO), infrastructure, or property-backed projects
- Background in Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) or structured transactions
