In-house Privacy Lawyer - Senior Manager

Line of Service Internal Firm Services Industry/Sector Not Applicable Specialism IFS - Office of General Counsel (OGC) Management Level Senior Manager Job Description & Summary About the role: You will work with both PwC UK’s in-house legal team (our Office of General Counsel, or “OGC”) and our well-established Privacy Team. OGC consists of over 50 lawyers, covering litigation, commercial and corporate legal support to the UK firm. The Privacy Team supports the DPO to help the firm handle personal data responsibly, and in this capacity, you will work closely with the UK firm’s Compliance Privacy Director as well as our Chief Compliance Officer. Both teams are highly regarded by, and well-networked to, the business and have strong relationships with a wide range of senior professionals within the organisation. What your days will look like: Negotiating data processing and data sharing agreements; Advising on cutting edge data-centred projects (including AI), and providing advice on areas such as international data transfers, legitimate interests assessments, and data protection legal requirements; Leading on all data protection matters for OGC; Directly supervising more junior data protection lawyers, and supporting other OGC colleagues on the privacy aspects of their legal workload; Helping to shape the firm’s processes and procedures to collect, store and process personal data. This may involve investigating legal issues, embedding policies, and formulating legal views about potential problems and the impact of regulatory guidance, enforcement actions and case law; Being the lead UK OGC point of contact within the global PwC network on data privacy matters. This role is for you if: A qualified solicitor with a detailed knowledge of English law, with extensive post qualification experience. Excellent technical professional knowledge in data protection. IAPP (CIPP-E, CIPP-M or CIPP-T) or PDP Data Protection Practitioner Certificate (or equivalent accreditation) is preferred but not essential. Experience with negotiating data processing / data sharing agreements. Good knowledge of UK/EU data protection law and regulatory guidance. Ability to work with others to formulate opinions and advice on matters relating to data privacy using sound judgement to ensure that the firm’s best interests are served. Ability to tailor advice to the specific needs of the business and apply common sense and practical solutions. Ability to adapt to change and to be open minded and innovative in their thinking. Excellent legal drafting skills. Sound, confident judgement and an ability to provide advice within a commercial context, in a pragmatic way.
