Role Information
OVERVIEW
This role is a critical operational function within the wider Learner Experience structure, focused on ensuring that learners with barriers:
- Are identified early
- Receive targeted, effective support
- Remain engaged in learning
- Progress successfully into positive destinations
It provides the delivery arm of inclusion and progression, supporting the strategic direction set by the Head of Learner Experience, Careers & Personal Development.
To work under the direction of the Head of Learner Experience, Careers & Personal Development, to deliver targeted interventions and support organisational priorities.
Key Outputs / Measures of Impact
This role will contribute directly to:
- Increased participation rates for learners with identified barriers.
- Improved retention and reduced withdrawals.
- Successful transition into and within provision.
- Measurable improvement in confidence, engagement, and employability.
- Higher rates of positive progression (EET outcomes).
MAIN DUTIES
To deliver targeted careers information, advice, and guidance (IAG) and support for learners with identified barriers to participation, ensuring they successfully access, engage in, and progress through learning into positive destinations.

The role is focused on frontline delivery and intervention, supporting organisational priorities linked to:
- Participation and retention.
- Inclusion and SEND.
- Progression and destinations (EET outcomes).
- Audit, funding, and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Identification of Need and Barriers
- Work with curriculum and support teams to identify learners at risk of non-participation.
- Support the implementation of initial and ongoing assessment processes.
- Identify barriers, including: SEND, SEMH, low prior attainment & social disadvantage or disrupted education.
- Maintain accurate, auditable records of identified needs and risk factors
Transition and Access Support
- Deliver one-to-one and small group careers guidance tailored to individual needs.
- Develop and review individual support and progression plans.
- Support learners to build confidence, resilience, and employability skills.
- Focus interventions on learners with additional needs or barriers to progression.
Targeted Careers Guidance and Intervention
- Deliver personalised, one-to-one and small group IAG interventions tailored to individual needs.
- Develop and review individual progression and support plans that address identified barriers.
- Support learners in building confidence, resilience, and employability skills necessary for sustained participation.
Supporting Retention and Engagement
- Monitor learners identified as at risk of disengagement or withdrawal.
- Deliver timely interventions to improve attendance, engagement, and retention.
- Work collaboratively with curriculum teams to implement inclusive strategies and adjustments.

Progression and Positive Outcomes
- Provide ongoing guidance to support progression into employment, further education or apprenticeships and training (EET outcomes).
- Support learners throughout the full learner journey, not just at exit points.
- Track and record progression outcomes, particularly for targeted cohorts.
Multi-Disciplinary Working
- Work as part of a joined-up support model, collaborating with teaching staff, pastoral teams, SEND specialists, and external agencies.
- Contribute to holistic support plans that remove barriers and promote inclusion.
Evidence, Compliance and Impact
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of learner needs & barriers, interventions delivered, and the impact on participation, retention, and progression.
- Ensure all activity is clearly aligned to funding requirements and audit expectations.
- Contribute to evidence of impact, demonstrating how funding supports participation, retention and leads to positive outcomes for learners.
