Inclusion Teaching Assistant – Northwick Manor Primary School
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Inclusion Teaching Assistant (TA) to join our school. Our inclusion TAs are vital in supporting our class teachers to help students fulfil their potential and develop essential independence skills.
This role focuses on promoting learning and personal development, particularly for pupils with special educational needs (SEN) and those with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. You will work under the guidance of the Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion) and teaching staff to ensure inclusivity through a combination of 1:1 support, small group sessions, or classroom assistance.
Main Responsibilities
Core Purpose
- Assist pupils with the academic and personal growth necessary to make the best use of educational opportunities, particularly for those with SEN.
- Deliver personalised, effective teaching interventions, including:
- Structured 1:1 or group SEMH support
- Targeted academic support in speech and language, behaviour, numeracy, and literacy
- Nurture support using trauma-informed approaches as needed
- Sprague close learning gaps by collaborating with teachers, other TAs, and the AHT (Inclusion) to ensure individual needs are met.
- Support pupils with special needs, ensuring safety, independence, and full access to the national curriculum.
- Work within Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) planning.
Key Accountabilities
Student Support & Implementation
- Work closely with assigned pupils (individually, in groups, or whole class) to:
- Promote positive behaviour, punctuality, and self-regulation.
- Mitigate conflicts while adhering to established policies.
- Guide pupils in self-responsibility and personal growth.
- Increase pupils’ practical independence, particularly those with SEN.
- Establish and maintain supportive relationships with pupils, using a culturally and trauma-aware approach.
- Assess progress via baselines and end-of-module evaluations, contributing to teaching strategies.
- Liaise with parents to ensure consistency between school and home support.

Practical Classroom & Administrative Work
- Assist at transitions (morning drop-off, break/lunchtime, end of session) under teacher supervision.
- Provide day-to-day pastoral care and assist with any personal or hygiene needs.
- Prepare, organise, and maintain classroom resources (e.g., equipment, digit literacy tools).
- Contribute to school displays, lesson enhancements, and general administration as required.
- Provide regular progress feedback to class teachers, year group leads, and the AHT (Inclusion).
Inclusivity & Collaboration
- Adhere to the Trust’s ethos and values, modelling high professional standards in conduct.
- Participate in school development, including Enrichment, staff meetings, and stakeholder discussions.
- Cooperate in excursions, school trips, and extracurricular activities, ensuring pupil safety under supervision.
Specialist Support
- *Predominantly support SEMH refers, though academic areas may occasionally need assistance.
- Work alongside Class teachers, other TAs, SLT (Senior Leadership Team), and external services to meet pupil needs holistically.
Requirements & Qualities
Personal Traits & Skills
- Empathy and patience—essential for SEMH and SEN support.
- Adaptability to student needs, classroom settings, and dynamic environments.
- Collaborative mindset with a commitment to inclusivity and progress tracking.
- Excellent outgoing behaviours and a passionate belief in inclusion.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and familiarity with behavioural techniques is advantageous.

Experience
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH and special needs is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Individualised Learning Programmes (ILPs), IEPs, and MDT planning.
- Specialist training in speech and language, numeracy, or social care would be beneficial.
Qualifications (Not explicitly listed, but encouraged.)
- While formal qualifications are not incarcerated, securing experience in the educational sector is preferred.
