Job Opportunity: Full-Time Child Protection Conference Chair

  • Working Arrangements: Agile, minimum 3 days in the office

  • Hours per Week: 37

Job Summary

As a Child Protection Conference Chair, you will play a vital role in ensuring positive outcomes for vulnerable children in Barnsley. This exciting opportunity requires a passionate, experienced professional to chair child protection conferences, safeguard children, and promote their voices in decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Chair child protection conferences ensuring robust planning and effective decision-making
  • Meet with families to explain the conference process and coordinate multi-agency support, including mini-delinquent schedules
  • Conduct ** Midway Reviews** to ensure progress on child safety plans
  • Ensure all conferences remain face-to-face to align with best practice
  • Support legal advice processes as required
  • Lead supervisees, appraise performance, and contribute to team development

Key Requirements

  • Expertise in statutory children’s social work with complex child protection expertise
  • Confident chairing of challenging meetings and multi-agency collaboration
  • Strong knowledge of the Children Act, Working Together to Safeguard Children framework, and safeguarding procedures
  • Dedicated operational oversight of complex childcare cases, ensuring best practice and accountability
  • Eligibility for Enhanced DBS clearance

Employment Considerations

  • Good English proficiency required
  • Potential need for overseas criminal record checks if residing abroad in the last five years
  • No sponsorship available for visa applications—provisions require visa compliance prior to acceptance
  • Pension regulation: Pension may be affected for employees re-merging into local government
