Job Purpose
The Independent Visitor service is the only statutory service with a befriending nature, as outlined in the Children’s Act 1989. Young people who are looked after by the local authority often lack a consistent adult role model in their lives. The service aims to provide an Independent Visitor volunteer to all eligible children, offering a trusted adult with whom they can enjoy fun activities and discuss worries.
Croydon Council’s Independent Visitor Service has been recognised as one of the leading services in the country, highlighted in our most recent Ofsted Inspection Report (December 2024) for delivering ‘impressive practice.’ This is a unique opportunity to support the service alongside the existing Independent Visitor Coordinators, ensuring statutory care provision for children in Croydon.
The role is based within the Quality Assurance and Safeguarding Unit.
About the Role

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
