At Babcock, we strive to create a safe and secure world together. As an Indirect Tax Analyst (based in London or Portsmouth with hybrid working), you’ll contribute to safeguarding vital defence, aerospace, and engineering programmes while ensuring tax compliance and operational integrity.
About the Role
You’ll work closely with senior finance leaders to:
- Ensure Babcock meets indirect tax obligations and compliance standards across its global operations.
- Support key stakeholders by enhancing tax processes, accuracy, and accountability.
- Work across finance, procurement, and operational teams to embed strong tax governance.
Key day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Preparing and reviewing value-added tax (VAT), construction industry scheme (CIS), and PAYE settlement agreement returns.
- Ensuring all tax filings are accurate, timely, and compliant.
- Developing and standardising tax processes, procedures, and supporting documentation.
- Collaborating internally to foster tax awareness and compliance culture.
- Identifying and implementing tax system, control, and reporting improvements.
This is a hybrid role (37.5 hrs/week), with office attendance required once a month or as determined by projects.

Responsibilities
- Preparing and reviewing VAT, CIS, and PAYE settlement agreement returns.
- Ensuring accurate and timely submission of tax filings across the business.
- Supporting the standardisation of tax processes and procedures.
- Building cross-organisational relationships to promote tax compliance awareness.
- Continuously improving tax reporting systems, controls, and workflows.
Requirements
Essential Experience
- Proven experience in an indirect tax or tax compliance role.
- Knowledge of cross-border indirect tax rules for goods and services.
- Solid grasp of core accounting and financial principles.
- Ability to analyse tax regulations, interpret data, and provide clear guidance.
- Strong skills in multitasking and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- Holding (or working towards) a professional qualification such as:
- ACA (Association of Chartered Accountants)
- ACCA (Chartered Certified Accountant)
- CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser)
- AAT ( Association of Accounting Technicians)
Security Clearance
- Mandatory eligibility to achieve and maintain:
- Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)/Security Check (SC) clearance.
