About the Role
A boutique investment banking advisory firm is seeking an experienced and technically strong VAT professional for Senior Associate / Manager role within the London-based tax team. This role is designed to provide additional senior capacity within the VAT function during a period of increased business growth and strategic change. The successful candidate will support the delivery of day-to-day VAT compliance across EMEA and Asia Pacific, reviewing the work of an Associate, whilst supporting the Senior Manager on technical advisory matters, and VAT engagement reviews.
Main Responsibilities
- Preparation, review and coordination of UK returns, and non-UK VAT/GST returns across 12 territories in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.
- Review of VAT returns and supporting workpapers prior to submission, ensuring technical accuracy and appropriate documentation.
- Preparation and review of monthly VAT general ledger reconciliations and SOX compliance files.
- Application and review of partial exemption methodologies (including PESM), capital goods scheme adjustments, and reverse charge transactions where applicable.
- Review of inter-company transactions and application of appropriate VAT treatment across jurisdictions.
- Responding to VAT queries from the business, finance teams, and other stakeholders, including providing technical input on non-routine transactions and initiatives.
- Review of VAT-related provisions within engagement letters and responding to VAT queries raised by clients and deal teams.
- Providing support and technical guidance to the VAT Associate, helping to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of VAT compliance.
- Providing cover for the VAT Manager during periods of absence, including technical sign-off of VAT returns and engagement-related VAT matters (subject to appropriate authorisation).
- Participation in VAT-related projects, including global e-invoicing implementation and inter-company VAT process reviews.
- Liaising with external advisers and tax authorities as required.

- Qualified tax or accounting professional with a strong focus on VAT (e.g. CTA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent experience).
- Significant experience in UK VAT compliance and advisory, ideally within financial services or a complex international group.
- Experience of working with VAT partial exemption methods, including PESM.
- Experience of international VAT/GST compliance across multiple jurisdictions would be preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
