Individual Needs Assistant (Staplecross School)

Hours of work: 15 per week.  Working pattern: Part-time, term-time only (working for 39 weeks per year plus 6.05 weeks annual leave, which will increase after 5 years' continuous service) As the position is part-time/term-time only, the above salary will be pro rata

Fixed term for: 12 months.

The role focuses on enabling full participation in learning and school life. You will provide reintegration support, deliver small group interventions, and work with teachers to adapt lessons using therapeutic and neuro-affirming approaches in line with the SEND Code of Practice and Therapeutic Thinking framework.

Key tasks: 

  • Support pupils in achieving the best possible outcomes both in group situations and on their own
  • Support pupils in developing interaction, communication, independence and inclusion both in and out of the Classroom.
  • Monitor the pupil’s response to the learning activities and, where appropriate, modify or adapt the activities as agreed with the teacher to achieve the intended learning outcomes.
  • Provide objective and accurate feedback on pupil progress as required.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is patient, calm and able to genuinely listen to children, valuing their thoughts and feelings

  • Use language and other communication skills that pupils can understand and relate to.
  • Can demonstrate versatility, flexibility and a proactive approach to supporting learning
  • Is willing to adopt a therapeutic approach to behaviour management aligned with our ‘Ready, Respectful, Safe’ policy.
  • Can maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Communicates clearly and positively with children, colleagues and parents
  • Ideally has experience supporting pupils with SEND, or a willingness to learn

This post is covered by the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2018.  

The school will need to ensure that they are not knowingly employing a person who is disqualified under the 2018 Regulations in connection with relevant childcare provision.  Accordingly, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate to the school, by completing a self-declaration form as part of the pre-employment checks process, that they have not been disqualified under the 2018 Regulations.
