As a Cleaning Teacher, you'll use your industry expertise to inspire learners, build confidence, and prepare them for employment within the cleaning and facilities sector.
You'll deliver engaging, hands-on training as a Vocational Teacher – Industrial Cleaning, focusing on professional cleaning techniques, the safe use and handling of cleaning chemicals, health and safety, safe working practices, and industry-recognised cleaning qualifications. Through your support and guidance, learners will develop the practical skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed in the workplace and progress into employment within the cleaning and facilities sector.
We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Swinfen Hall, working as an Industrial Cleaning Teacher. This position is offered on a full-time, 6-month fixed term basis (with potential to extend), working 37 hours per week.
Role Responsibilities
As a Cleaning Teacher, you will play a key role in helping learners develop practical vocational skills, build confidence, and work towards sustainable employment opportunities. Working within a prison education environment, you will deliver engaging, hands-on training that equips learners with the knowledge and experience required to work safely and effectively within the cleaning and facilities sector.
You will support learners to develop industry-standard cleaning techniques, understand the safe use and handling of cleaning chemicals, and apply essential health and safety practices, including safe systems of work. You will also help learners achieve recognised cleaning qualifications while developing the employability skills, behaviours, and confidence needed to succeed in the workplace.

Site Information
HMP Swinfen Hall is a category C prison for young adult and adult men located near the village of Swinfen and is situated 2 miles south of Lichfield in Staffordshire. The key aim of the prison is to provide education, vocational training, and comprehensive support services to prepare inmates for a successful reintegration into society.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will need to:
- Preferably hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain a Teaching qualification within 12 months.
- Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
- The successful candidate must have either a qualification in Cleaning and/or vocational expertise in this area.
- Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners.
- Have a good previous track record of achieving quality targets.
- Have willingness to engage with and produce accurate and timely reports.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Have an ability to motivate and enthuse learners in the subject matter.
- Demonstrate good organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines/targets.
- Advocate for and engage consistently in positive team working.
