Industrial Hygienist
Industrial Hygienist – Contract (On-Site) Role
Location: Hampshire, England Salary: £45–£60 per hour + holiday pay Work Type: Contract, on-site (100% site-based, no hybrid)
About the Role
Join a leading refinery and petrochemicals operator in an excellent opportunity to work with a COMAH Tier 1 environment, supporting exposure monitoring, assessments, and consultative activities under the guidance of a skilled Industrial Hygiene team.
Key responsibilities focus on workforce health protection, exposure assessment, risk mitigation, and training delivery within a high-risk industrial sector.
Responsibilities
- Conduct planned and ad hoc exposure monitoring surveys, including qualitative assessments of chemical and physical hazards
- Provide expert risk control advice, recommending suitable mitigation measures for workplace health dangers
- Prepare clear, accurate technical reports on exposure evaluations, documenting findings and recommendations
- Deliver Industrial Hygiene training to employees on critical topics, such as:
- Hazardous substances
- Physical agents (e.g., noise, vibration)
- Exposure control measures
- Assist with turnaround activities, including confined space ventilation plan design and trials
- Perform reactive and emergency response monitoring when required

Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience as an Industrial Hygienist, ideally within heavy industry or high-risk environments
- Completion of BOHS modules:
- M501 (Measurement of Hazardous Substances)
- M503 (Assessment and Control of Noise)
- M505 (Control of Hazardous Substances)
- M507 (Health Effects of Hazardous Substances)
- Strong grasp of workplace exposure risks and effective Industrial Hygiene control strategies
- Demonstrable ** written and verbal communication skills**, with proficiency in Microsoft Office for technical reporting

Additional Attributes
- Inside IR35 compliance – advertised hourly rate is PAYE
- A valid driving licence (essential for site travel)
- Minimum commitment of 3–5 full days per week (preference for a full-time equivalent (37.5 hrs/week))
- Ability to combine technical expertise with strong stakeholder engagement
