The Hershey Company Lancaster Plant is a non-union plant producing Licorice Products such as Twizzlers, Nibs, and Pull & Peel, in a high-speed complex environment.
Pay:
- Starting pay rate: $39.97/hour
- $1.00/hour additional shift premium for working 2nd or 3rd shift

Shifts:
- Flexible to work any shift, weekends, overtime, and holidays.
- Schedule assignments upon hire are determined by plant needs and will be discussed during the interview process.
Note: current needs are primarily on 3rd shift. - 2nd Shift work schedule: 2:30pm-10:30pm
- 3rd Shift work schedule: 10:30pm-6:30am
- Regular schedule is 8-hour shifts.
- Mandatory overtime could be weekly (scheduled up to 12 hours/day, Monday through Sunday), daily (additional 4 hours on your 8-hour shift) and/or weekends (8 to 12-hour shifts).
Interview / Hiring / Selection Process:
- Potentially qualified applicants will complete written NOCTI mechanical skills assessment either remotely or at the plant
- Candidates that pass the written NOCTI skills assessment will be scheduled for a hands-on mechanical skills assessment at the plant
- Post-offer Drug Screen & Background Check required
Summary:
The Hershey Company Reese Plant has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Mechanic to work in our manufacturing facility. The Maintenance Mechanic will perform all installation, maintenance, servicing, repairing, and rebuilding of packaging equipment and other related equipment and is able to troubleshoot and repair packaging equipment using basic and advanced maintenance practices with assistance, help peers with repairs.
Responsibilities:
- Safely use basic hand and power tools such as a drill press, power saw, grinder, etc.
- Have a basic understanding of belts, belt drives, chain drives, gearboxes, and conveyors
- Read and interpret written description or engineering drawing relative to the function performed
- Safely use machining equipment such as a mill and lathe

Required background skills and minimum qualifications shall include:
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the industrial, military, or owner/operator trades environment. Food manufacturing experience is preferred.
- The successful candidate must be able to effectively function in a fast-paced team environment
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English
- Must be flexible to work any shift and work weekends, holidays, and overtime
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Must have a basic understanding of PC’s and basic computer skills, machine shop & welding skills
- Must achieve a passing score on both a written and practical mechanical assessment
- Maintains equipment parts and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt
- Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests
- Must understand all lockout procedures
- Safely troubleshoot and repair all packaging and robotic equipment
- Safely set up and change a Nibs cutter
- Demonstrate the initiative to investigate and offer improvements to our plant operations
- Communicate appropriately with operators, mechanics, electricians, engineers, and supervisors
- Make up a bill of materials as required
- Service, clean, and inspect equipment periodically following established PM's (preventative maintenance)
- Safely operate mobile equipment such as fork trucks, hand trucks, lifts, boom lifts, etc.
- Issue work orders to follow up on needed repairs
- Properly lubricate packaging equipment and packaging lines as per the manufacturer recommended lubrication schedules
- Utilize problem-solving techniques in interacting with other employees in resolving issues
- Evaluate and make recommendations to change PM (Preventative Maintenance) schedule or contents
- Safely perform changeovers as they apply to Hayssens DoBoys, Fallas Case Packers/ERectors, Campbell Wrappers, box machines, case erectors, etc.
- Safely change blades in a DoBoy machine and set up to run
- Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team
- Must have understanding of SAP, entering notifications, logging time, and following up with repairs
- Levels of grade will be determined on job performance and proven day-to-day job abilities. Increases are determined as a result of collaboration of maintenance leadership team.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is preferred
- Experience with Safe Quality Food (SQF) practices is preferred
- Experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is preferred
- Experience with Continuous Improvement methodology is preferred
- Experience with SAP Maintenance module is preferred
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Regularly required to work around operating equipment, confined spaces, stand, reach, stoop, crawl, walk, climb ladders, and bend
Working Conditions:
- Work will be performed within a manufacturing facility
- The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required to include but not limited to safety toe shoes, ear plugs, safety glasses/goggles, bump camps, hair and beard nets, and gloves
- Wearing company issued uniforms is a requirement
