Are you looking for a new and exciting challenge? Would you like to help students make their first steps into a professional engineering career? Do you have the skills to encourage them to make the most of any opportunity?

The Faculty of Engineering at The University of Nottingham is known for its world-class research and inspirational teaching and offers exciting opportunities for our students to work closely with many high performing companies. These strong links with industrial partners can be seen in their involvement across our degree programmes. We also have a large number of students choosing to undertake an industrial placement as part of their degree and have “with industrial year” variants across all of our undergraduate programmes.

The role holder will have specific responsibility for the development, management and delivery of industrial placement provision, including supporting students with securing a suitable placement and identifying new placement opportunities with local, national and international companies. You will also need to visit students in their workplace to provide them with coaching and support and to nurture relationships with the employer. Travel for these visits, overnight stays and attendance at events will form an important part of this position and a flexible approach to working patterns is therefore required. This work will be done in conjunction with the wider Faculty Placements Team and the Faculty Careers Consultants.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
