The Position
An exciting, permanent opportunity arises for an Infection Control Nurse, based at Lister Street, University Hospital Crosshouse, working 36 hours per week.
From 1 April 2026, NHS staff in Scotland see standard hours reduced to 36 hours (full-time).
Key Requirements
- Essential:
- UK driving licence (full UK/EU/EEA license required).
- Personal transport.
Responsibilities
As a core member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team (IPCT), reporting to the Infection Control Nurse Team Lead, the selected candidate will:
- Nursing & Clinical:
- Registered nurse (first-level) with relevant clinical experience.
- Evidence of post-registration education, training, and development.
- Commitment to complete an applicable Infection Control Qualification ( diploma, degree, or master’s level).

- Skills in designing and delivering education and training for staff, e.g., presentations.

- Active role in preventing and controlling infections.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
The post-holder must meet all of the following:

Nursing & Clinical Background:
- First-level registered nurse with current, relevant clinical experience.

Formal Education & Commitment:
- Proof of post-registration education/training.
- Agreement to pursue an appropriate Infection Control Qualification.

Audit & Surveillance Skills:
- Hands-on experience with audits, including:
- Report writing.
- Action planning.

Training Credentials:
- Demonstrated ability to deliver education and training to staff.

NHS Scotland’s HAI Agenda:
- Comprehensive knowledge of:
- National infection control guidelines and policies.
- Proven ability to translate infection control theory into practice.

Soft Skills:
- Verbal and written communication – key for this role.

Applicants must demonstrate an existing legal right to work in the UK. NHS Ayrshire & Arran occasionally sponsors visas, but approval depends on:
- Salary threshold compliance (including pro-rated part-time rates).
