Job Overview
We are looking for a highly engaging individual to join our friendly, dynamic, and progressive Infection Prevention and Control Team at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, committing to our journey towards zero tolerance for avoidable infection.
This role demands:
- A registered healthcare professional with a proven passion for infection prevention standards
- The ability to inspire and mentor junior team members, fostering patient safety through knowledge sharing
- Strong leadership to support the infection prevention services across primary and secondary care in the health economy, including promoting and sustaining the Habits Campaign (habits programme)

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to the management of the Infection Prevention Service across primary and secondary care while championing the habit programme
- Collaborate closely with the Infection Prevention Sister/Charge Nurse, leveraging expertise in clinical infection prevention across acute and community settings
- Act as a role model for junior colleagues, sharing best practices to enhance patient safety
- Ensure application adherence to mandatory infection prevention frameworks

Qualifications
- Essential:
- Registered Nurse with current professional registration
- Relevant postgraduate knowledge or experience (controlled or in progress)
- Desirable:
- Graduate-level training in leadership development or specialised modules
- Advanced qualifications or specialist postgraduate modules in infection prevention and control

Experience
- Essential:
- Extensive clinical experience in acute healthcare, with expertise applicable to team support and practical training
- Demonstrated ability to conduct & apply audit results to improve patient care
- Desirable:
- Background in infection surveillance programmes (including data collection methods)
- Leadership roles in clinical practice requiring professional supervisory skills
Skills
- Essential:
- Exceptional interpersonal & communication skills, including the ability to positively challenge teams and drive practice improvements
- Experience of negotiating and consolidating work programmes with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate collaboration
- Desirable:
- Proven record of implementation change management in practice
- Experience in effective policy development and resource application
Knowledge
- Essential:
- Welsh Government-approved competences in infections prevention across all spectrums (related to Health Protection & Infection Society guidance)
- Desirable:
- Knowledge of surveillance methodologies, audit standards, and quality improvement cycles, evidencing application to previous roles
