Job Overview
We are seeking a highly engaging and passionate individual to join our friendly, dynamic, and progressive Infection Prevention and Control Team at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, as part of our mission to achieve zero tolerance for avoidable infection.
As a registered healthcare professional, you must have worked in a proactive infection prevention team, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to highest infection prevention standards. In this role, you will:
- Act as an inspirational role model to preserve patient safety
- Share expertise and develop junior staff within the team
- Lead and manage Infection Prevention Service for primary and secondary care across the health economy
- Promote and sustain the Habits Campaign.
This position offers an opportunity to work closely with Infection Prevention Sisters/Charge Nurses across acute and community settings, delivering expert guidance on infection prevention issues while supporting the Habits Programme.

Key Responsibilities
- As the Infection Prevention Nurse, you will support the leadership and management of the Infection Prevention Service for primary and secondary care across the health economy.
- Promote and sustain the Habits Campaign (Programme).
- Work closely with Infection Prevention Sister/Charge Nurse, providing expert guidance across acute and community settings.
- Drive patient safety by setting industry-leading infection prevention standards.
- Develop and mentor junior staff within the multidisciplinary team.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential Criteria:
✔ Registered Nurse (on the live register) ✔ Professional knowledge demonstrated via a degree or evidence of working towards one
Desirable Criteria:
✈ Leadership development course ✈ Postgraduate qualification or module in infection prevention and control
Experience
Essential Criteria:
✔ Clinical experience in acute healthcare, with ability to apply knowledge to support frontline staff ✔ Experience in practical audits—using audit results to enhance patient care
Desirable Criteria:
✈ Experience with infection surveillance programmes, including data collection methodologies ✈ Proven leadership in clinical settings
Skills
Essential Criteria:
✔ Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills—capable of positively challenging teams/individuals ✔ Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to negotiate and agree work plans
Desirable Criteria:
✈ Recent evidence of change management in practice ✈ Effective policy implementation experience
Knowledge
Essential Criteria:
✔ Specialist knowledge across the spectrum of infection prevention activity, aligned with Welsh Government-endorsed Infection Prevention Society competences
Desirable Criteria:
✈ Knowledge of surveillance methodologies, audit processes, and quality improvement cycles
