Infection Prevention Nurse - INTERNAL
Fixed-Term/Secondment Position Application Notice
⚠️ Important: We will only accept applications from staff currently employed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
📅 This post is fixed-term/secondment for 10 months until 30.4.2027, covering a secondment absence. You must obtain approval from your current line manager before applying.
Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive, registered healthcare professional to join our Infection Prevention and Control Team at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
You must: ✔ Be a registered healthcare professional. ✔ Demonstrate passion and commitment to achieving the highest standards in infection prevention. ✔ Act as an inspirational role model for patient safety. ✔ Foster team development by sharing experiences with junior staff.
Main Responsibilities
As the Infection Prevention Nurse (Fixed-Term/Secondment), you will:
- Support the Leadership & Management of the Infection Prevention Service across Primary and Secondary Care across the health economy.
- Proactively promote and sustain the Habits Campaign to enhance infection prevention practices.
- Provide expert guidance across acute and community settings, engaging with a multidisciplinary team to address infection control challenges.
- Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills while leading by example.

Qualifications & Essential Criteria
Essential
✔ Must be a registered nurse (active register). ✔ Required to have professional knowledge (degree or evidence of progress).
Desirable
✔ Experience in leadership programs. ✔ Postgraduate qualification/module in Infection Prevention & Control.

Professional Experience
Essential
✔ Proven clinical experience in an acute healthcare environment. ✔ Ability to apply experience to support staff in professional practice. ✔ Experience in performance audits and using results to enhance patient care.
Desirable
✔ Involvement in surveillance programs, including data collection methodologies. ✔ Experience in clinical leadership within professional settings.
Key Competencies & Skills
Essential
✔ Strong interpersonal and communication skills to positively challenge teams/individuals when necessary. ✔ Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to align programs.
Desirable
✔ Recent evidence of change management applied in practice. ✔ Experience in effectively implementing policy changes.
Specialist Knowledge
Essential
✔ Demonstrated specialist knowledge in infection prevention (aligned with the Welsh Government-endorsed Infection Prevention Society competences).
Desirable
✔ Familiarity with surveillance methodologies, audit practices, and improvement cycles.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable but not mandatory. Both Welsh and English speakers are welcome to apply.
