Infection Preventionist
The Infection Control Officer
The Infection Preventionist will serve as the organization’s Infection Control Officer, responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the infection prevention program. This includes:
- Setting appropriate infection prevention goals and objectives
- Reviewing and revising hospital policies and procedures
- Educating staff on tools and techniques to reduce the risk of infectious diseases among patients, staff, visitors, and the community
Key Responsibilities
- Create and implement an Infection Control Plan and Risk Assessment
- Assemble and lead an Infection Control Committee
- Coordinate with Accreditation bodies (e.g., The Joint Commission, CDC, CMS)
- Collaborate with RRMC leadership to align efforts with strategic priorities
- Utilize quality improvement & project management methodologies
- Interpret and communicate infection prevention data effectively

Minimum Education
- Bachelor’s degree in: Medical Technology, Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field
- Master’s degree preferred
Minimum Work Experience
- 3 years’ experience in:
- Acute care or post-acute care settings
- Infection prevention experience strongly preferred
- Proven quality improvement & project management experience
- Experience working with:
- Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
- The Joint Commission
- Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
- Ability to gather and analyze large/complex datasets
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Current professional licensure/certification relevant to the role
- Certified Infection Control (CIC) credential (within 2 years of hire)
- Certification as a Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) (desirable)
- Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) (desirable)

Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams for positive outcomes
- Strong understanding of:
- Clinical terminology & processes
- ** Microbiology, asepsis, cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, statistics**
- Proficient in:
- Quality improvement & change management protocols
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, web browsers)
- Willingness to use a personal vehicle for work purposes (if applicable)
- Strong analytical skills, including:
- Assessing process outcomes
- Evaluating program effectiveness
- Facilitation & presentation skills
- Team-building & problem-solving competencies
