Key Responsibilities
The Cyber Security Operations Engineer will work closely with our Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) to protect our systems, networks, and information assets. Your role will include:
- Define and governance security configurations across Microsoft security tools (e.g., Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel) and key third-party platforms (Mimecast, Palo Alto Prisma, Cortex XDR).
- Implement and maintain security policies, settings, and exemptions.
- Oversee MSSP performance to ensure robust monitoring, detection, and incident response.
- Act as a key escalation and response partner during security incidents.
- Prioritise and manage security use cases, rules, and alerts for improved MDR/XDR implementation.
- Focus on enhancing detection coverage and effectiveness.
- Develop and maintain SecOps continuous improvement initiatives—automating processes, optimising workflows, and upgrading security detection capabilities (for both RSM UK and MSSP).
- Define, document, and maintain operational knowledge, including:
- Incident response processes
- Run-books
- A central knowledge base for MDR/XDR alerts

Ideal Candidate
We want you to be someone who thrives on variety, loves continuous learning, and enjoys collaborating with others.
Specifically, we’re looking for:
- A strong understanding of networking and security fundamentals, including protocols, architectures, and security methodologies.
- Proven experience in security operations, with a track record of applying core security principles and best practices.
- Hands-on expertise with security tools, such as:
- SIEM (Security Information and Event Management)
- Firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Cisco ASA)
- IDS/IPS (Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems)
- Malware protection
- Vulnerability scanning
- Deep experience with the Microsoft security stack, including:
- Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Azure Sentinel, Defender for Endpoint
- Threat protection capabilities (zero-trust, identity protection, etc.)
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally and managing incident responses.
