About the Role
We’re seeking a Senior Manager to lead our Data Protection Office within Assurance Services, responsible for:
- Providing leadership in Information/Data Governance and Data Protection Compliance.
- Ensuring the organisation adheres to legal, regulatory, and internal policy requirements.
- Working closely with stakeholders across Operations, Technology & Security, Corporate Services, People, Risk, and Internal Audit, applying subject matter expertise to:
- Influence decision-making.
- Highlight risks.
- Drive effective governance outcomes.

You’ll also:
- Motivate and develop a team of Data Protection professionals, including:
- Setting objectives.
- Conducting regular 1:1s and performance reviews.
- Coaching to build capability, resilience, and high performance.
- Drive process improvements, policy development, and supporting documentation.
Note: SLC operates a hybrid working model, with a minimum of 2 days in-office per week. For this role, Wednesday is mandatory as one of the in-office days.
What You Bring
- Experience of managing/leading a high-performing team in a similar context.
- Strong Data Protection knowledge, including:
- Experience with Audit activity, Risk Management, and Information/Data Governance frameworks.
- Ability to oversee and ensure consistent application across business areas.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management:
- Confidence to influence at senior levels and represent the Data Protection Office in key meetings/forums.
- Ability to identify and communicate process improvements, policy development, and supporting documentation.
- Can work independently, trusting own judgment, and demonstrate confidence in challenging situations.
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory, policy, and control requirements and translate them into clear business guidance.
- Risk identification, assessment, and prioritisation:
- Serve as a senior escalation point.
- Ensure mitigation or risk acceptance actions are in place.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills:
- Navigate ambiguity and assess impacts across connected processes, risks, and controls.
- Maintain precision and professional judgment to oversee multiple priorities.
- Recognised Data Protection qualification, such as:
- CIPP-E (Certified Information Privacy Professional-Europe).
- Certified GDPR Foundation and Practitioner.
- Experience in people management in a Governance/Compliance role, with adherence to regulatory requirements/standards.
- Confident communication skills.
- Experience in developing and implementing subject-matter policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in risk management principles.
- Hands-on experience in:
- Data breach investigation.
- Incident response as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
- Ability to lead authoritatively across organisational boundaries, providing timely professional opinions in fast-paced environments.
