The Opportunity
As the Information Management Leader, you will reshape Arup’s global information services—moving from custodial operations to a strategically integrative, future-proof system that empowers professionals across the firm to create value, build confidence, and deliver impact.
Under your leadership, three specialist teams will align:
- Photo Library
- Project Library
- Corporate Library
You will set a visionary direction, expressing information as a trusted core asset amid an era of AI, distributed teams, and evolving work paradigms.
Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute a firm-wide information management roadmap aligned to Arup’s strategic priorities.
- Champion information services as a critical differentiator for leaders, members, and clients, articulating clear value propositions.

Future-Proofing & Adaptability
- Proactively anticipate organisational, technological, and industry shifts, influencing the function’s evolution.
- Sponsor and govern AI integration, intelligent search solutions, and automation within libraries and information services.

Business & Financial Oversight
- Develop evidence-based business cases to secure sustained investment from senior stakeholders.
- Align budgets and resources with strategic priorities, ensuring maximum impact.

Thought Leadership & External Engagement
- Contribute to the evolution of the information management profession through research, publications, and targeted industry dialogues.

Talent Development
- Mentor and nurture colleagues to build sustainable IM capability, implement succession planning, and create clear development pathways.

Operational Excellence
- Design scalable governance models, workflows, and cross-cultural operating strategies for a distributed, global organisation.
- Drive iterative improvement in service quality, efficiency, and user experience using data, metrics, and stakeholder feedback.
Is This Role Right for You?
Essential Experience
- Senior leadership in information management, libraries, or closely related domains with global organisations.
- Proven track record applying future-proofing principles to libraries/services, embracing emerging technologies and new ways of working.
Technical Expertise
- Strong foundation in:
- Taxonomy, metadata, records governance, and digital asset management.
- AI’s impact on information work, with a clear ethical and governance lens.
- Practical understanding of platform selection, systems integration, and vendor management.
Leadership & Commercial Capability
- Experience leading cross-functional, distributed teams across diverse cultures and time zones.
- Commercial acumen in budget stewardship, strategic priorities, and ** andò-equity ROI narratives**.
** Preferred Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience); postgraduate qualifications or chartered membership (e.g., CILIP) is advantageous.
