Information Management Officer – Bristol

About the Role
The Information Management Officer will play a pivotal role in enhancing how information is structured, governed, and utilised across The Planning Inspectorate, a trusted entity shaping England’s fair planning system.
This role requires expertise in information governance, digital tools (SharePoint & Microsoft Teams), and compliance frameworks, while supporting critical processes like Freedom of Information (FOI) responses and organisational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
Information Management & Integration
- Collaborate with digital and business stakeholders to optimise Windows 11/Microsoft 365 tools (SharePoint, Teams), ensuring information is seamlessly shared and accessed.
- Contribute to information governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with policy, legal (FOI/EIR), and regulatory standards.
- Review and enhance current information systems, reducing duplication and improving accessibility for internal and external users.
Process & Compliance Support
- Handle Freedom of Information (FOI/EIR) requests, delivering accurate responses and monitoring requests to organisational procedures.
- Advise teams on secure data handling, version control, and metadata tagging to meet regulatory expectations.
- Identify and articulate efficiency gaps, proposing solution-based recommendations to streamline workflows.
Training & Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop training materials and guidance to support staff in adopting best practices for information management.
- Deliver workshops or one-to-one support to enhance digital literacy and compliance awareness.
- Partner with project teams to embed strong documentation practices.

Strategic Initiatives
- Monitor and administer SharePoint/Teams configurations, ensuring alignment with organisational needs.
- Contribute to cross-functional projects, such as gesture IT deployments or systems upgrades, ensuring alignment with governance requirements.
- Track policy updates, including data protection (GDPR) and accessibility standards, initiating adaptations where necessary.

Salary & Structure
- Starting salary: £37,579 (HEO Grade, within Civil Service pay scale).
- Members receive additional £10,886 annual pension contribution in association with the Civil Service Defined Benefit scheme.
- Standard 30-hour+ working week, with flexibility to arrange hours via föhr ipad policies.

Selection Process
Lead Filter (250-word statement): Selected AUC candidates must confirm their eligibility with practical information since past experience. Remain centred around: technical control over managing information.
Behavioural Understandings Checking: Technically, consistent with Civil Service Behaviours (Changing & Improving, Managing Quality Services, Working Together, & Delivering at Pace).
Lead 2-Stage Interview Assessment: Yo lever shortlisters will undergo: 📢 Oral panels on behaviour and experience, along with: 📝 A requires written pitch that you must research and prepare.
Assessments will note technical, behavioural expectations.
Interviewing: Pre-booked start of July 2026 with MS Teams.
