IT Engineering Manager / Head Of Software Engineering

IT Engineering Manager / Head Of Software Engineering is being sought to join a global leading business as it strengthens its UK engineering leadership and modernises a broad, business-critical technology landscape.

As the IT Engineering Manager you will be leading a multidisciplinary engineering function across software development, testing, DevOps, data, and systems integration, while working closely with technical leadership teams in both the UK and US.

The role required 3 days/week in site in Wiltshire and is paying £75,000–£90,000 + benefits.

As the IT Engineering Manager, you will be:

  • Leading and formally managing a multidisciplinary engineering team across the UK, India, and external technology partners in a Microsoft environment.
  • Taking responsibility for performance management, career development, recruitment, succession planning, and employee engagement.
  • Remaining technically close enough to the team to guide engineers and provide hands-on support when required.
  • Supporting the modernisation of customer-facing, operational, back-office & mobile technology.
  • Working closely with US technical leadership to adopt global engineering standards while ensuring they work effectively for the local UK business.

As the IT Engineering Manager, you will have experience of:

  • Formally managing software engineers, including performance reviews, managing underperformance, promotions, recruitment, and career development.
  • Modernising established technology estates, including implementing new architectures, frameworks, or platforms.
  • Working within a Microsoft-focused environment using technologies such as Azure, C#,.NET, and ASP.NET.
  • Leading a mixed engineering team across disciplines such as software development, testing, DevOps, data, and systems integration (ideally that have also been geographically distributed).
  • Working closely with global stakeholders (ideally within a shared UK and US structure).
  • Operating effectively within a complex environment where engineering practices and processes are still developing.
  • Maintaining strong technical credibility while remaining focused primarily on people leadership and delivery.
