Information Technology Infrastructure Engineer
IT Infrastructure Engineer | Portsmouth | Contract Until 31 March 2027
π Join a cutting-edge digital transformation programme supporting the Royal Navy
We're seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure Engineer to play a key role in the delivery and support of the Navy Digital Hosting (Deployed) [NDH(D)] programme. This initiative is transforming the Royal Navy's hosting infrastructure, delivering a modern, scalable and secure Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) environment that supports critical digital services across the fleet.
π Location: Portsmouth (primarily onsite)
π Travel: Occasional travel to UK sites, Dockyards and Royal Navy vessels required
π Contract: Until 31 March 2027
πΌ IR35 Status: Inside IR35
π Clearance: Active SC Clearance required to start, with the opportunity to progress to DV Clearance in the future
π Requirement: Full UK Driving Licence required
The Role
As an Infrastructure Engineer, you'll be responsible for the build, deployment, administration and ongoing support of the NDH(D) platform. Working within a collaborative delivery team, you'll help ensure a high-quality, resilient service while supporting both project delivery and live operational environments.

Key Responsibilities
- Build, deploy and support enterprise infrastructure platforms
- Deliver day-to-day administration and support of hosted environments
- Provide 1st and 2nd line support for deployed infrastructure services
- Administer VMware-hosted services and virtualised environments
- Support Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory environments
- Maintain and update technical documentation
- Manage asset logistics and work closely with suppliers
- Support ITIL-aligned change management processes
- Collaborate with technical teams to deliver infrastructure services across Royal Navy environments
What We're Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Experience administering VMware VCF-hosted services
- Knowledge of VMware vCenter 7.0+
- Experience with Dell server hardware and iDRAC
- Microsoft Windows Server 2019/2022 administration
- Active Directory administration experience
- Experience maintaining technical documentation
- Minimum 2 years' experience providing 2nd and 3rd line infrastructure support
- Understanding of ITIL change management processes
- Ability to work in a flexible, agile environment and manage workload independently
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Active SC Clearance

- Strong stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Eligibility and willingness to undergo DV Clearance
Qualifications
- ITIL Foundation
- Microsoft MCSA (preferred)
- VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Administrator Certification (desirable)
