The Role
This is a 12-month fixed term contract opportunity within Saab Public Safety Solutions—an extension of our mission to deliver mission-critical solutions to Police, Fire & Rescue, Airports, and other public safety organisations.
As an Infrastructure Architect, you will:
- Shape, design, and implement scalable, resilient, and secure hosting platforms for critical software systems.
- Guide key decisions such as public cloud vs. private cloud and other architecture choices.
- Pour expertise into infrastructure delivery across cloud, on-premise, automation, networking, security, and operational readiness.

Key Responsibilities

Design & implement secure, resilient, and scalable cloud-hosted managed service platforms.

Define infrastructure architecture for mission-critical applications, including:
- Cloud hosting (public/private)
- Networking, high availability, disaster recovery
- Performance, scalability, and security
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployment automation
- Operational monitoring & observability

Collaborate with software engineering and DevOps teams to enable cloud-native deployment models.

Improve infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Kubernetes, containers).

Support customer engagements with infrastructure and hosting expertise.

Provide technical leadership and mentoring to platform engineering teams.
Additional duties include:
- Technical design documentation (high/low-level)
- Operational readiness for managed service environments
- Platform standardisation and governance assurance
- Interaction with customers and third-party suppliers
- Cloud migration, modernisation, and transformation initiatives
- Third-line technical expertise for operational teams
Qualifications & Experience
Must Have: ✅ 5+ years’ experience as an Infrastructure Architect, Cloud Architect, or Platform Architect in complex enterprise environments. ✅ Hands-on expertise in designing and implementing cloud-hosted (Azure, AWS, or private cloud) managed service platforms. ✅ Strong knowledge of:
- Infrastructure architecture, cloud networking, security, disaster recovery, resilience engineering
- Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform/Ansible/Packer/PowerShell) and pipelines.
- Kubernetes, containers, modern platform technologies.
- Networking (firewalls, VPNs, load balancing, DNS, routing, SD-WAN).

✅ Experience in high availability/mission-critical environments and cross-functional (strategy + delivery). ✅ Stakeholder management and collaborative workspace fluency (Agile environments). ✅ Governing cloud governance & FinOps practices.
Preferred Experience: 🔹 Designing highly available voice (telephony, Airwave Radio) systems. 🔹 UK Emergency Services or Public Safety infrastructure familiarity. 🔹 Virtualisation (VMware) and hybrid cloud experience. 🔹 Observability/SIEM and Zero Trust security principles. 🔹 Managed services or SaaS platform delivery. 🔹 TOGAF, Azure, AWS, or Kubernetes certifications.
