The Opportunity

Arup’s Civil Engineering team is looking to recruit a Civil Engineer to enhance our growing team of bright professionals in our Cardiff Office. Our current projects are varied, exciting, and often high-profile, including:

  • Prestigious buildings
  • Zero-carbon schools and hospitals
  • Data centres
  • Large transportation schemes
  • State-of-the-art rail and bus infrastructure
  • Sustainable infrastructure for large residential projects

We cover all stages of projects: advisory, concept, detailed design, and construction supervision. Our clients and collaborators span:

  • Government agencies (national and local)
  • Local authorities
  • Private developers
  • Contractors
  • Utility companies

Our team works across the UK and overseas, leveraging a network of local and global experts.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are seeking candidates with experience in civil engineering design, particularly in:

  • Earthworks
  • Streets and active travel
  • Public realm design
  • Drainage
  • Utilities
  • Flooding

Passionate individuals driven by innovation and a holistic approach to engineering—someone who values collaboration, cross-disciplinary work, and sustained growth alongside a diverse and engaging team.

Successful applicants should:

  • Excel in designing civil engineering elements across varied, high-profile projects.
  • Have a collaborative and creative approach, communicating design ideas effectively for internal and external teams.
  • Work independently while checking the quality and accuracy of their own work.
  • Display technical expertise in industry-standard CAD packages (AutoCAD, Civils 3D, or MicroStation CAD packages—or similar).
  • Show interest in BIM, digital automation, and 3D-related design processes (digital twins, parametric modelling, etc.).
  • Be familiar with civil engineering software:
    • MicroDrainage
    • InfoWorks WS/InfoDrainage
    • MicroStation ADN scripts/checkMacros

Qualifications

A strong suit for this role includes the following qualifications and experience:

  • A suitable Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent) with a focus on technical specialisms.
  • A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Demonstrable experience in civil engineering is essential.
