Infrastructure Engineer

We are seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, and support secure virtualised environments within a complex, high-assurance infrastructure. The role focuses on hypervisor deployment, virtual server provisioning, Windows hardening, and Active Directory design, alongside supporting critical infrastructure services.

This role suits an engineer with strong experience in enterprise infrastructure, virtualisation platforms, and secure system configuration, operating in environments where reliability, security, and performance are critical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and configure virtual server environments, including installation and management of hypervisors
  • Provision and maintain virtual machines, ensuring performance, availability, and scalability
  • Implement Windows system hardening and lockdown measures, aligned with security best practices and standards
  • Design, deploy, and manage Active Directory (AD) architecture, including:
    • domains and forests
    • group policies (GPOs)
    • identity and access management
  • Support and maintain core infrastructure services, including:
    • DNS
    • TCP/IP networking services
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and security posture across infrastructure environments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues across virtualisation, OS, and network layers
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, including build guides, configurations, and standards
  • Collaborate with security, network, and systems teams to ensure secure and integrated infrastructure design

Essential Skills

  • Strong experience with virtualisation technologies (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V or equivalent hypervisors)
  • Solid knowledge of Windows Server administration and system configuration
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory design and management
  • Understanding of Windows hardening techniques and security controls (e.g. GPO, CIS baselines)
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including DNS and TCP/IP
  • Experience in infrastructure build, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with monitoring and performance tuning of infrastructure systems
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to document technical solutions clearly and effectively

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience in an Infrastructure Engineer or Systems Engineer role within enterprise or complex environments
  • Experience building and supporting virtualised server environments
  • Demonstrated experience implementing Windows server hardening and security controls
  • Experience designing and administering Active Directory environments
  • Experience supporting core infrastructure services such as DNS and networking
  • Experience working in secure, regulated, or mission-critical environments is highly desirable
