Infrastructure Engineer

Warrington | £45,000-£60,000 | On-site

My client is a growing technology-led business that has recently completed a major investment in its on-premise infrastructure, including a brand-new datacentre environment and significant investment in AI infrastructure.

They're looking to hire an Infrastructure Engineer to take ownership of the day-to-day infrastructure estate whilst supporting a range of infrastructure and technology projects. This is a broad, hands-on role offering genuine ownership and the opportunity to work with modern technologies in an environment that is continuing to invest heavily in its IT platform.

The Role

Reporting to the IT Director and working closely with the Systems Administrator, you'll play a key role in maintaining, improving and evolving the company's infrastructure across multiple business functions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Administration and support of Windows Server and Linux environments.
  • Managing and maintaining virtualisation platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox or similar).
  • Developing and maintaining PowerShell automation (essential).
  • Infrastructure monitoring, patching and security.
  • Managing SQL Server infrastructure, including availability, resilience and maintenance (no SQL development required).
  • Supporting networking, connectivity and core infrastructure services.
  • Backup, disaster recovery and business continuity.
  • Delivering infrastructure upgrades and project work from planning through to implementation.
  • Supporting the infrastructure underpinning the company's growing AI platform and GPU compute environment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
