The Role: Technical Operations Engineer

This position supports MAG’s Server Infrastructure during a period of technical transformation at London Stansted Airport. As a 3rd-line Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll operate in a 24/7/365 environment, maintaining business-critical systems to ensure seamless operations for passengers and colleagues alike.

You’ll be expected to proactively enhance resiliency, security, and performance—while collaborating across teams to drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 3rd-line technical support for MAG’s server infrastructure estate
  • Oversee and troubleshoot business-critical systems in a fast-paced operational setting
  • Conduct root cause analysis, investigate recurring incidents, and implement preventative solutions
  • Maintain reliability, security, and uptime through infrastructure management practices
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotations to ensure continuous support coverage
  • Collaborate on service improvements and infrastructure transformation projects
  • Work with cross-functional teams to standardise processes, reduce outages, and enhance operational visibility

What Makes You Recommended?

We’re looking for a proactive problem-solver with deep expertise in IT infrastructure operations who can work efficiently under pressure. Responsibilities include:

  • Superior diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to learn new technologies rapidly and adapt to emerging challenges
  • Reduction of complexity through automation, optimisation, and standardisation

Experience & Requirements

Must-Have Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience: Minimum 3+ years as 3rd-line support engineer (or equivalent experience in a strategic IT environment)
  • Technologies Platforms:
    • VMware (virtualisation, environment management)
    • Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM/ECM) & software distribution packages
    • Microsoft 365 (environment support & migration awareness)
    • Active Directory (GPOs, DNS, and DHCP)
    • Windows Server (2008–2025) & Windows ecosystems (7–11 support)
    • Veeam Backup & Recovery solutions
    • PowerShell scripting (for automation or drastic troubleshooting)
    • Certificate and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI/Certificate Services)
  • Aproach: Strong incident and problem management methodology with hands-on experience in root cause analysis to de-conflict issues

Desirable (But Not Mandatory) Experience

  • Always On VPN and remote-access solutions for hybrid systems
  • Remote Desktop Services (RDS) provisioning and optimisation
  • Virtualisation platform extensions (VMWare NSX)
  • Basic Linux administration/commands
  • SQL database queries and light-weight reporting (for infrastructure audits)
  • Experience with disaster recovery & business continuity planning
