Role: Data/Civil Service Clerk Level 4 Organisation: Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Location: Bristol, Swansea, Leeds, Nottingham, Newcastle, Oldham (Chadderton), Birmingham (Garretts Green), or Uxbridge (Hybrid working available) Salary: £35,663 £4,000 London Weighting allowance (for candidates based in Yeading) Pension: Civil Service Pension (28.97% employer contribution) Contract: Permanent – Flexible working, Full-time/Part-time/Job share
The DVSA ensures road safety through testing, compliance, and vehicle regulation across the UK. The Cloud Infrastructure team maintains critical digital services, focusing on security, sustainability, user experience, and innovation while migrating to modern cloud solutions like Azure, M365, Meraki, and Dynamics.
About the Role
The Infrastructure Engineer supports second- and third-line IT services as a bridge between the support desk and specialist teams, ensuring seamless cloud-based infrastructure operations.
This role offers a dynamic environment to develop expertise in:
- Platform engineering (IaaS, hybrid/legacy systems)
- Networks & communications (Infrastructure as Code, automation)
- Digital Workspace (end-user devices, unified security tools)

Key Responsibilities
- Incident & Fault Management: Provide second/third-line IT support for core infrastructure (servers, backups, networks), ensuring 99.9% uptime.
- Service Evolution: Work collaboratively to improve and modernise infrastructure services, balancing user needs with business transformation.
- Automation & Efficiency: Implement automated tooling (e.g., Ansible, PowerShell) to streamline governance and elevate fault recovery and deviation metrics:
- Operational Excellence: Monitor and maintain servers, networks, backups, and end-user devices with bi-directional escalation protocols to off-shore teams.
- Configuration Management: Deploy/configure solutions (servers, edge devices, enterprise software) replace legacy systems safely while maintaining standardised environments.
- Security & Compliance: Oversee security protocols, threat detection, and protection of sensitive infrastructure data, adhering to UK Directives & legally mandated requirements.
- Documentation: Maintain internal knowledge (archived documentation, troubleshooting guides) and update personal logs for incidents / change activities.
- Team Leadership: Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
