About the Role
Our client operates one of the largest privately held supercomputing environments in Europe, supporting complex workloads across energy, earth sciences, and digital infrastructure. This leadership-focused role involves guiding a team that maintains a large-scale Linux estate, spanning virtualisation and application-level support.
The business seeks to modernise the team’s operations, shifting from reactive ticket-based support to structured service management, automation, and adopting modern operational practices.

- Lead a team of infrastructure and platform engineers, setting direction, managing workloads, and fostering an environment where employees thrive.
- Own service delivery across Linux and virtualisation platforms, ensuring high operational standards without micromanagement.
-
EScalation & Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Serve as the senior point of contact for the wider data centre operation when unavailable, requiring broad expertise in networking, hardware lifecycle, project delivery, and facilities.
- Bridge technical teams and internal stakeholders, translating business needs into practical technical outcomes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
