Location: Wigan (manufacturing site producing flexible plastic films for major food retailers)

About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Ink Technician to ensure high-quality ink production and maintenance, while adhering to strict safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Your role involves:
- Producing inks aligned with customer specifications and maintained to exact standards.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., BRC, ISO, A2 environmental standards).
- Operating safely and efficiently, minimising waste and hazards.

Ink Preparation & Quality Control
- Manufacture inks within data standards and anilox specifications for first-run success.
- Ensure dispensing key security for all ink operations.
- Identify and track returned or used inks for re-supply.
- Operate systems (IFS6, eXact spectro, IQC) to reduce press downtime.

Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
- Apply SMED and 5S principles to optimise workflows.
- Prioritise the use of press returns over virgin ink to minimise waste via IFS6.
- Maintain a 24-hour minimum ink supply to support production plans.
- Support ongoing improvement projects if needed.

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Follow strict HSE policies, ensuring prompt spill reporting and cleanup.
- Maintain safety in the distillation plant for ink and solvent handling.
- Minise waste generation through efficient recirculation practices.

Process & Technical Support
- Support printers with minor adjustments and ink recipe tweaks.
- Assist the Ink Room Manager with:
- Unloading ink deliveries
- Conducting stock takes and re-ordering
- Log press returns for future use in system.
Candidate Requirements & Skills
To succeed in this role, you must:
✔ Legal/General Knowledge
- Hold (or be trainable in) a forklift truck license.
- X-rite equipment certifications (beneficial).
- Colour matching experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of design standards in packaging.
✔ Technical Proficiency
- Skilled in production quality, health, safety, and environmental (QHSE) protocols.
- Knowledge of continuum improvement techniques (lean, 5S, process optimisation).
- Fluent English (written and verbal communication required).

Working Patterns
This role operates on a rotating 12-hour shifted schedule, typically structured as follows over a 4-week cycle:
- Week 1: 4 nights, 3 off
- Week 2: 3 days, 1 off, then 3 nights
- Week 3: 3 off, followed by 4 days
- Week 4: 7 days off
