Job Description

Purpose of the Role

To collaborate, nurture, and drive group innovation with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the bank stays at the forefront of innovation and adapts to the rapidly changing landscape in financial services and increasing customer expectations.

Accountabilities

  • Collaboration with a range of stakeholders to develop a portfolio of open innovation and strategic initiatives through experimentation, co-creation, access to innovative technology capabilities, products, and services, and a global innovation ecosystem.
  • Development and delivery of frameworks, ideation, training, and tools to build a culture of innovation and knowledge sharing to enable new and creative ideas/solutions that deliver on the bank’s strategy.
  • Provision of a global platform and curated ecosystem of partners to inform strategy, drive connectivity, and new insights.
  • Development of the strategic capabilities and programs for the bank to deliver on its strategy, supporting the exploration, evaluation, and execution of innovation and investment opportunities.
  • Management and coordination between external stakeholders/partners and the bank to successfully deliver joint projects and initiatives.
  • Deliver thought leadership and insights to inform strategic decision-making and organizational readiness, in conjunction with regular research, identifying emerging technologies and trends.
  • Development and management of key metrics including key partnerships, innovation initiatives, and impact through regular assessments to calculate the return on investment and identify any potential risks and issues.

  • Demonstrate understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organization sub-function.
  • Make evaluative judgments based on the analysis of factual information, paying attention to detail.
  • Resolve problems by identifying and selecting solutions through the application of acquired technical experience and will be guided by precedents.
  • Guide and persuade team members and communicate complex/sensitive information.
  • Act as a contact point for stakeholders outside of the immediate function, while building a network of contacts outside the team and external to the organization.

As part of Innovation Operations & Delivery, you'll support key strategic initiatives—from Proof of Concept delivery to governance of our innovation sandbox. You'll help keep multiple PoCs and BAU processes running smoothly, ensuring efficient, compliant, and high-impact innovation across the organization.

To be successful as an Innovation Operations & Delivery, you should have experience with:

  • Innovation Delivery, Governance & PoC Oversight
    • Ability to manage end-to-end innovation pipeline deliverables — including Proof of Concepts — while enforcing governance standards and providing strong operational oversight across multiple concurrent initiatives to ensure timely, compliant, and high-quality delivery.

  • Technical Understanding

    • Demonstrates strong technical fluency across emerging technologies—including AI—and a practical understanding of operating within public cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Governance & Reporting

    • Solid grasp of Barclays control framework including data management, legal, and compliance controls, enabling the production of clear, accurate, and governance-aligned operational reporting.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • BAU and Multi-Project Coordination

    • Experienced in managing BAU operations alongside concurrent innovation initiatives, using tools such as JIRA to maintain structured delivery, clear prioritization, and governance alignment.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication

    • Able to work effectively across cross-functional teams, providing clear, concise updates, and maintaining strong visibility of progress, risks, and decision points across the innovation portfolio.
  • Analytical Thinking, Problem-Solving & Tech Literacy

    • Skilled at identifying operational issues, improving processes, and supporting agile decision-making in a fast-paced innovation environment.
    • Demonstrates a strong, proactive interest in the AI and broader emerging-technology ecosystem, with a hands-on approach to exploring new tools, capabilities, and practical applications.
