Inquest Team Leader
At CTM University Health Board, we are seeking an experienced and proactive Inquest Team Leader to take a pivotal role in managing inquest activities on behalf of Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board.
About the Role
The Inquest Team Leader will provide essential leadership and expert guidance in managing all inquest proceedings, ensuring investigations are thorough, providing targeted advice around case management, and representing the organisation professionally in Coroner’s Court.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate Inquest Proceedings: Lead and manage all aspects of inquest investigations, including factual circumstance reviews, ensuring due diligence.
- Expert Representation: Act as the organisation’s key representative at Coroner’s Court, delivering appropriate advocacy and professional advocacy.
- Specialist legal guidance: Offer expert input on inquest processes and statutory compliance to the Coroner, other stakeholders, and internal teams.
- Prepare High-Quality Documentation: Compile detailed evidence and casework, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory standards.
- Witness Coordination: Organise witness statements and attendance, facilitating seamless procedural flow.
- Audits & Improvement: Conduct case file audits, contribute to systemic learning, and recommend process refinements to strengthen patient safety and governance.
- Staff Education & Training: Deliver inquest-related training sessions to CTM doctors, nurses, and administrators on clinical, legal, and risk management concerns.
- Redress & Complaints Advice: Provide substantive legal guidance for concerns and redress matters linked to inquests.

To fulfil this role, the Inquest Team Leader will:
- Take main responsibility for managing inquests on behalf of CTMUHB;
- Liaise directly with Coroners’ Courts, preparing reports, attending hearings, and providing appropriate legal/advocacy support;
- Support audit of inquests to promote procedural compliance;
- Collaborate on improving annual inquest processes to meet organisational/court requirements;
- Advocate firm, transparent guidance on complex inquest matters, including substantive written or verbal advice as required;
- Oversee training and development of clinical and administrative staff on inquest procedures.
Welsh Skills Desirable
This role is advertised as Welsh Desirable: While Welsh language skills are not essential, candidates with Welsh speaking/listening ability at Level 3 (CEFR B2) or above are encouraged to apply. This includes basic conversational competence relevant to patient interactions in healthcare settings.
