The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is looking for a motivated and experienced individual to join our team as an Inspector in the Construction sector.

As an Inspector, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of workers and the public within the construction industry. You will conduct inspections, investigate incidents, provide advice and guidance to businesses, and enforce health and safety legislation. This is a challenging yet rewarding role that offers the opportunity to make a real difference in workplace safety. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of health and safety principles, excellent communication and analytical skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience in the construction sector is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct proactive and reactive inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and complaints, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to businesses, including SMEs, on health and safety matters.
  • Prepare detailed reports on inspection findings, enforcement actions, and recommendations.
  • Deliver training and presentations on health and safety topics.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including industry bodies, trade unions, and other enforcement agencies.
  • Keep up-to-date with relevant legislation, standards, and best practices in health and safety.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, Engineering).
  • Demonstrable experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the construction industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and its practical application.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, manage workload effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • A full, valid driving licence is essential as travel will be required.
