Inspector (Ref: 250657)

Permanent Full-Time: 36 Hours per Week Grade: Band 7 (£52,845 - £61,466) Location: Edinburgh/Glasgow Work Arrangement: Hybrid working (foreseeable future)

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and positive individual to contribute to a national programme of healthcare inspections within justice settings, collaborating with the HM Inspectorate of Prisons for Scotland (HMIPS) and HM Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland (HMICS). In this role, you will support quality assurance and continuous improvement of care across Scotland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to the planning and delivery of inspections and reviews across a range of justice settings.
  • Communicate complex, sensitive, and often contentious information clearly and confidently, both verbally and in writing.
  • Build and maintain constructive working relationships with providers, colleagues, and stakeholders.

About the Team

This post is based within the Healthcare within Justice team, part of the Quality Assurance and Regulation Directorate (QARD).

Requirements

Professional Qualification

Applicants must hold a relevant clinical qualification, specifically in mental health, such as:

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN)
  • Allied Health Professional qualification (e.g., Occupational Therapist)

Additionally, you must have:

  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience

Experience & Competencies

Ideally, you will have:

  • Experience in prison or police custody settings.
  • A strong background in mental health and/or supporting individuals affected by substance use.
  • A clear understanding of the complex needs of individuals in justice environments.

Essential Training

  • Ability to undertake mandatory Personal Protection Training (PPT) as required by this role.
