Position Summary

This position is responsible for the security, treatment and general living conditions of all persons in our care / residents assigned to the living unit.

This position is responsible for all activities within the unit, including but not limited to: supervising of Correctional Officers, Sergeants and social workers; developing, implementing and monitoring the overall institution goals, policies and procedures; acting as part of the institution management team; and directing an institution-wide program.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 81-34 with a starting pay of $49.30/hour - $57.12/hour. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Anticipated schedule will be Monday – Friday 7:45 AM – 4:30 PM.

This position is anticipated to share the on-call responsibilities of the Administrative Duty Officer, which will occasionally involve work on nights, weekends, and holidays.

This position is not anticipated to travel on a regular basis, but most DOC positions occasionally travel for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Qualifications

The qualifications listed below will be evaluated in the first step of the selection process and must be clearly described in the letter of qualifications and resume:

Minimally Qualified Applicants Will Have

  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating treatment and/or specialized programs (such as: treatment, clinical, and/or social services, education, religious programs, structured activities).
  • Experience developing and implementing overall security plan, policies and procedures in a secure setting.
  • Experience performing supervision or lead-worker activities such as coordinating work activities, hiring, assigning/directing/evaluating work, providing training, developing and implementing policies and procedures, etc.

In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have:

  • Experience managing and supervising the operating procedures of a work unit.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary workgroups, committees, and/or project teams.
  • Experience working in a correctional setting.
