POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
TITLE: Instructor-Cosmetology
CLASSIFICATION: Full Time Faculty - Exempt - Salary
DIRECT SUPERVISION RECEIVED FROM: Franklin County Campus Director
OFFICE LOCATION(S): 925 Dinah Shore Blvd, Winchester, TN 37398
HOURS:
Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
(37.5 hours per week minimum)
SALARY: $51,149-$61,379 annually, commensurate with education and experience
FUNCTION OF THE JOB:
Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Shelbyville is accepting applications for a Full-Time Cosmetology Instructor. This position is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to high school and adult students in all areas of cosmetology, preparing them for licensure and employment in the field.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide individualized classroom and lab instruction in all areas of cosmetology, including hair care, skin care, nail care, sanitation, and safety.
- Deliver theory and practical instruction covering anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and Tennessee cosmetology laws and regulations.
- Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and hands-on training aligned with current industry standards.
- Monitor, evaluate, and document student progress.
- Maintain accurate records and submit reports in a timely manner.
- Supervise clinical activities, patron services, and salon operations, including scheduling and client interactions.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom and lab environment in compliance with state board standards.
- Assist with student recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.
- Support dual enrollment programs through collaboration with high school partners, on-site visits, and student engagement activities.
- Partner with high school partners to ensure curriculum continuity and alignment between secondary and postsecondary cosmetology instruction.
- Maintain positive relationships with industry partners and support program advisory committee activities.
- Participate in professional development to remain current in cosmetology practices and licensure requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent (HiSET acceptable).
- Current, valid Cosmetologist license issued by the Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology.
- Current, valid Cosmetology Instructor license issued by the Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology, or ability to obtain before program starts.
- 3+ years of full-time experience in cosmetology or a related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of cosmetology principles, techniques, and salon operations.
- Ability to teach and effectively engage with high school and adult learners.
- Teaching, training, or salon management experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office or similar programs.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and industry partners.
- Physically able to perform instructional demonstrations and tasks, including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 30 lbs., with or without accommodation.
