Instrument Project/Field Engineer

Instrument Project/Field Engineer - Net Zero Teesside (NZT) Project

About the Role

Do you want to be at the forefront of one of the world’s most ambitious sustainability initiatives?

Balfour Beatty has built iconic structures and infrastructure globally for 115 years, setting industry benchmarks.

Now, as part of a consortium with bp (British Petroleum), they’re constructing Teesside’s first decarbonised industrial cluster, including a next-generation gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage (CCS).

We’re seeking a dynamic Instrument Project/Field Engineer to support our Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project at our Redcar and Cleveland site.

Role Purpose: Execute engineering designs and technical specifications, producing controlling documentation for associated works.

Duties include assisting engineering teams with design, data collection, and system testing, operating under the guidance of Senior Engineers and Project/Construction Managers.

ECOSYSTEM MUST adhere to customer specifications (safety, quality, time) while ensuring all risk, specification, and project objectives are fully met.

What You’ll Be Doing

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee successful project delivery, leading by example with daily construction operations.
  • Ensure site records are up-to-date and accessible.
  • Conduct full team inductions, enforce role-specific requirements, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Monitor short-term programmes, track accurate progress records, and deliver Toolbox Talks.
  • Maintain budget alignment (expenditure vs. contract costs) and efficient resource use.
  • Enforce Balfour Beatty Values and uphold a zero-harm culture.
  • Support Project Sustainability initiatives.

Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance

  • Ensure public, staff and subcontractor safety under strict HSE protocols.
  • Support accident/incident investigations, identifying and implementing improvements.
  • Stay updated on legislative changes and cascade information to the team.
  • Lead active H&S management and compliance.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
