The terminal has played a long-standing role in processing and delivering natural gas, supporting both local employment and national energy supply. THE OPPORTUNITY – INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN, BARROW GAS TERMINAL

Required to undertake engineering maintenance and defect repair tasks, ensuring the reliability and scheduled availability of operational plant and equipment associated with gas production/processing.

  • Duration: ASAP to 31st September 2026
  • Location: Barrow Terminal; working 7 days on, 7 days off rotation
  • Rate: £375/day PAYE

AND NOW FOR THE TECHNICAL BIT…

In role you will be accountable for:

  • Both routine and non-routine maintenance activities to plant and equipment, in accordance with agreed procedures and operational requirements
  • Investigating complex technical problems relating to critical plant, identifying solutions and acting to return plant to normal operating service
  • Preparation and presentation of technical reports, and maintenance of records within the recognised systems
  • Carrying out commissioning and decommissioning activities to ensure planned plant operating programmes are achieved in a timely manner
  • Liaising with vendors, engineering support function and external auditors when required
  • Ensuring that safe working practices and procedures are adhered to within the area of work, and that appropriate permits are in place to ensure the protection of plant, equipment, environment, and the safety of employees
  • Carrying out the duties of Instrument Technician on systems such as Fiscal Metering, Distributed Control, Emergency Shutdown and Fire & Gas systems

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrable experience in petrochemical process, operations or maintenance
  • Sound understanding of engineering principles
  • Qualified as an Instrument Technician
  • The inherent hazards of operating in this nature and the substances involved require the job holder to possess a thorough knowledge of procedures and the process systems to ensure the ongoing integrity of health, safety and environmental performance
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written
  • BTEC Higher National Certificate or equivalent in an appropriate engineering subject is necessary to provide the requisite underpinning knowledge

Mandatory Training to include:

  • Ex Equipment in Hazardous Areas (CompEx EX01 – EX04)
  • SBT01 Stage 1 Assemble and Install Small Bore Tubing Assemblies – Twin Ferrule
  • MJI10 Stage 1 Initial Training – Hand Torque Bolted Connections
