Instrument Technician

Instrument Technician – Permanent Position

Operations Support Department | dsm-firmenich – Dalry, UK

About the Role

We are seeking a permanent Instrument Technician to join our Operations Support Department at the dsm-firmenich Dalry site, working on the dayshift schedule.


Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance to maintain optimal operational performance of instrumentation systems.
  • Assess and understand scope and safety issues relating to allocated work, ensuring compliance with regulatory and operational standards.
  • Perform tasks strictly in line with dsm-firmenich’s Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) requirements.
  • Sign off on RAPTW (Return to Work) procedures and initiate equipment handover to Production teams.
  • Maintain accurate job history documentation, adhering to best practice standards.
  • Record daily work times in SAP for accurate payroll and project management.
  • Drive continuous improvement in maintenance processes, focusing on efficiency (e.g., optimising test procedures).

Requirements

You must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an Instrument Technician within chemical, manufacturing, or process plant industries.
  • HNC (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, particularly in health, nutrition, or science-related fields.
  • Proven expertise in maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting:
    • Temperature instrumentation
    • Level instrumentation
    • Flow instrumentation
    • pH control systems
    • Control valve systems (e.g., on/off, control loops, actuators)
  • Strong technical understanding of instrumentation maintenance, automation principles, and corrective diagnostics.
  • Advantageous if you have knowledge of Functional Safety and Machine Safety standards.
  • Experience working in hazardous areas (ATEX), with COMPEX certification being a strong asset.
  • Any electrical maintenance experience, though not mandatory, is beneficial.
