Commercial Insurance Account Handler
Location: York or Hull (Hybrid Working)
Salary: Up to £35,000 + Bonus (Retention & New Business)
Are you an experienced Account Handler looking for a brokerage that values your contribution, not just your output?
We are working with a leading independent commercial broker based in Malton. They have built a strong reputation across the region for providing tailored insurance solutions, and due to continued success, they are now looking to add a customer-focused Account Handler to their growing team.
This is a pivotal role for someone who wants to move away from high-volume, transactional environments and into a firm where you can truly nurture your portfolio and build long-term relationships with local businesses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Portfolio Management: Manage and maintain a diverse portfolio of commercial accounts, handling renewals, MTAs, and policy adjustments with precision and care.
- Client Advocacy: Develop and nurture strong relationships, becoming a trusted advisor who understands the unique operational risks of your clients.
- Market Negotiation: Negotiate with a panel of top insurance providers to secure competitive pricing and the most favorable terms for your clients.
- Technical Ownership: Conduct thorough risk assessments and provide expert advice on tailored business insurance packages.
- Service Excellence: Deliver outstanding customer service by promptly addressing claims, inquiries, and concerns as they arise.
- Professional Development: Stay current with industry trends and regulations to ensure you are always recommending optimal, up-to-date solutions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
